The Susan G. Komen Foundation has apologized for its recent decision to withdraw funding to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screening.  Critics of Komen's initial plan to defund Planned Parenthood claim the decision was political and made to support pro-life organizations' assault on Planned Parenthood to the detriment of Komen's proclaimed mission to provide access to health care and save lives.  A public firestorm aimed at Komen ensued.

After a day and a half of denying that the move to defund Planned Parenthood was politically motivated and refusing to reverse its decision, the organization tweeted:

We want to apologize for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives.
