Oh dear.

John Edwards admitted today that he had an extramarital affair with former staffer Rielle Hunter The National Enquirer has reported for about a year now that Edwards had sexual relationship with Hunter and fathered her child.  Edwards repeatedly denied and dismissed the Enquirer's allegations as "tabloid trash" until now.  He still denies that he is the father of Hunter's baby.

On a visit to the Butler University Bulldogs, Chelsea Clinton showed that she can be quite the bulldog herself.  When a student asked Chelsea if she thinks the Monica Lewinsky scandal hurt her mother's credibility, she quipped, "...I do not think that's any of your business."

Do. Not. Mess. With. Chelesa.

Everybody knows by now that Rudy Giuliani was getting it on with then mistress and now 3rd wife Judith Nathan, while he was still married to 2nd wife Donna Hanover.  Giuliani made frequent trips Nathan's Southhampton condo to "do it."  That's the old news.

The new news is that he billed the travel and security expenses to New York City taxpayers, and allegedly tried to hide it by charging the accounts of obscure city agencies.  "There is really no good reason to do this except to have nobody know about it," a former New York City budget director told Politico.

None of this is good news for Giuliani's presidential campaign.  "Using public money to carry on an affair, and do it in a way that is designed to conceal that fact from the public, people would think that reflects on his character," David Rohde, a political science professor at Duke University, told the AP. "And most especially social conservatives, who are dicey about him in the first place."

Scary Craig

In an interview with Matt Lauer, Sen. Larry Craig called out frienemy Gov. Mitt Romney (MA) for not supporting him after he was arrested in a public men's room for soliciting sex from an undercover cop. Sen. Craig had served as Senate liason for Romney's presidential campaign, but he resigned when the news of his sex scandal broke.  At that time, Romney said that he was disappointed in Craig's "disgusting" behavior

"I was very proud of my association with Mitt Romney," Craig told Lauer. "... And he not only threw me under his campaign bus, he backed up and ran over me again."

Hmm.  We beg to differ.  We would say that Romney threw Craig under his campaign bus, backed up, ran over him again, hopped out of the bus to check to see if Craig was really dead, got in a few licks while Craig lay flattened on the ground, then backed up his bus again a few times just to make extra sure that Craig was super dead.

Alas, Romney's efforts failed, and Craig lived to file an appeal today to overturn a judge's refusal to allow him to withdraw his guilty plea in the case. And, of course, bring about even more negative publicity to the Republican party by doing an interview with Matt Lauer about the scandal, which will air Tueday night on Matt Lauer Reports and Wednesday morning on Today

Acoording to Wonkette, Republican lawmakers have adopted a panty hose policy for female staffers.  Apparently, they want to reflect a more puritan image to combat their freaky reputation.  A reputation earned  thanks to Sen. David Vitter's hooker fetish, Sen. Larry Craig's habit of getting it on in public restrooms, Rep. Mark Foley's love letters to little boys...   Sheesh. We can't list them all.  So many sex scandals, so little time...

Neimans handcuffs.jpgNothing says power chick quite like the prominent display of these silver-plated handcuffs encrusted with Swarovsky crystal on your desk.  They're just a paperweight, but if they were real, you wouldn't hesitate to use them on a worthy opponent. Political frienemy, don't sleep.

Academy Award winning actress and activist Emma Thompson is speaking out against sex trafficking by promoting the London exhibit "Journey in Trafalgar Square," which traces the life of an Eastern European sex worker.  Watch the video (about 2 min long) here.  It's appalling to hear what sex workers slaves go through.

In addition to her political activism, Emma Thompson is known for her roles in the films Howard's End, The Remains of the Day and Sense and Sensibility.

Sen. Larry Craig has announced that he has no plans to resign, because he still has some very important work to finish in the senate.  He's probably redecorating the senate men's room right now.

A judge has rejected Sen. Larry Craig's motion to withraw his guilty plea, and he just may have to resign as he said he would.  Sen. Craig (R-ID) was arrested for soliciting sex from an undercover police officer in a Minneapolis public restroom stall and pled guilty to disorderly conduct for the infraction.  Initially, he said that he would resign from the U.S.Senate because of the controversy, but he later changed his mind and said that he would resign only if he was unable to withdraw his guilty plea.

Urbandictionary.com's word of the day:

Wide Stance October 1
A euphemism for a homosexual, especially one who is closeted.

This is coined from the transparent defense of Senator Larry Craig (R-Idaho), to charges of disorderly conduct, stemming from his apparent solicitation of an undercover officer, underneath the partition of a restroom stall.

Prior to pleading guilty, Sen. Craig attempted to explain his behavior by claiming that his shoe touched the officer's underneath the partition because he had a "wide stance", when going to the bathroom.

Genevieve is really crushing hard on the varsity QB. Someone should tell her that the dude has a wide stance.

Read Urban Dictionary's other definistions of "wide stance" here.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (stopchildhoodobesity.org) has produced an ad that parodies Sen. Larry Craig's (R-ID) arrest for soliciting sex from a cop in a public restroom.  The ad takes place in a men's bathroom stall and involves a lot of foot tapping and reaching into neighboring stalls.

What the heck do Larry Craig's stall tactics have to do with childhood obesity?  Watch and see.

Giuliani Party, Just $9.11 To Attend

A party will be held soon in Palo Alto, CA to raise $10,000 in campaign donations for Republican presidential candidate and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.  According to the party invitation, the party theme is "$9.11 for Rudy," and party goers are asked to contribute $9.11 each "to show how many individual, everyday Americans support `America's Mayor.'"

We know what you're thinking: "This sounds like  the tackiest, most self-serving and insensitive exploitation of those who lost their lives in the 911 terrorist attacks.  No one, not even Rudy 'let's flaunt my mistress in front of the kids' Guiliani would be this insensitive, this stupid.  Is this some kind of sick joke?!"

Nope. No joke.  You can't make stuff like this up.

From Politico's The Crypt:

Minnesota prosecutor responds to Larry Craig

Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) knew what he was doing when he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges stemming from his arrest in a men's room sex sting, said the prosecuting attorney in papers filed Monday in Minnesota.

Craig's plea was "accurate, voluntary and intelligent," prosecutor Christopher Renz wrote in a motion opposing Craig's request to withdraw his guilty plea. "The real basis for the defendent's motion -- his displeasure with the outcome -- is not an appropriate basis for relief sought. The court should also deny the defendent's motion as untimely because it was sought only as a political reaction."

The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Minnesota.

Check out the docs here and here.

Wendy Cortez, Sen. David Vitter's (R-LA) paid friend with benefits, tells all about her sexual encounters with him (he likes it missionary) in a video put out by Hustler magazine.  She says that Vitter told her (at the time of their relationship) that he came to her for sex because he knew he could trust her.  He's probably re-thinking that about now.

Wendy also said that she was on drugs during the time period that she was sexually involved with Vitter. Well, duh. We've seen the guy. You'd have to be.

By the way, don't confuse this Wendy with Vitter's wife who is also named Wendy. (Creepy!)  The man seems to have some kind of freaky Wendy fetish.

Jessica_Cutler_5.jpg Jessica Cutler, the infamous senate aide (to former Republican Senator Mike DeWine) who documented her sexual trysts with her colleagues in an online blog until she was outed by Wonkette, shared the latest goings on in her life in an interview with sexpert Susie Bright.  Jessica talks about her life as a senate aide, Washingtonienne (her "fictional" book about a senate aide who has sex with colleagues for money), her bankruptcy and, of course, sex.  Here's her take on what it's like to work for a conservative, Christian U.S. senator:

SB: You worked for some really famous so-called Christian conservatives. [Ed: Jessica worked for Senator Mike DeWine (R) - Ohio, who was defeated in the 2006 election.] And the way you describe D.C. political life, it's just as hypocritical and full of shit as everyone imagines it to be.

JC: Oh yeah. I mean, the platform the Senator I worked for had... he was a Christian conservative.

SB: And was he really? Do you think these people have a grain of sincerity?

JC: The way it is, each Senator is a figurehead. And you have the staffers doing the work. But you know, like... from hanging out with them and partying with them and stuff, like -- I wasn't the only girl in my office that had an abortion.

I went there not knowing anyone, you know? I'm not the daughter of any contributors and didn't know anyone who had anything to do with Capitol Hill. I just went in there for my interview. I would have worked for anybody, you know?

SB: You were a whore!

JC: Yes, I was! (Laughs) Ideologically, yes!

You can read the rest of Jessica's interview here.

The bathroom stall where Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) was arrested in an undercover sex sting is now a tourist attraction.  Tourists frequently visit the stall and some even take pictures.

Wendy Chavez (real name Wendy Ellis) is a former prostitute who claims that she had a paid sexual relationship with Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) for 4 months.  In response to Vitter's denial (he claims that he only had sex with prostitutes in Washington DC), she has produced the results of a lie detector test that indicate that she is telling the truth.  She held a press conference with Hustler publisher Larry Flynt to discuss her relationship with Vitter and the test results.  Read more and watch the press conference here.

Double standard?  Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) committed a crime when he solicited an undercover cop for sex in a Minneapolis public restroom.  Republicans immediately distanced themselves from him and called for his resignation.  Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) also committed a crime when he solicited and engaged in sexual activity with prostitutes in Washington DC and Louisiana on multiple occasions.  Republicans have supported him and not called for his resignation.  Are Republicans supporting Vitter and denouncing Craig because Vitter's misconduct involved heterosexual activity and Craig's misconduct involved homosexual activity?  You decide.

Sen. Larry Craig filed papers Monday to withdraw his guilty plea in hennepin County, Minnesota.  He pled guilty to disorderly conduct after he allegedly solicited an undercover police officer for sex in a public restroom.  Craig had announced that he would resign from the U.S. Senate on September 30, but now he says that he will resign only if he is unable to withraw his guilty plea.

Turns out that Sen Craig's "character witnesses," his children Michael Craig and Shea Howell, have a few character issues themselves.  Here's the rundown.

Sen. Craig was arrested in a public restroom for soliciting sex from a cop (he says it was a "misunderstanding"). Michael and Shea appeared on Good Morning America last week to clarify that "misunderstanding" on behalf of their father.

At the time of their appearance, there was an arrest warrant out for Shea because she failed to make a criminal court appearance. The initial charges against her were "unlawful entry" and "malicius destruction of property".

Not to be outdone, Michael has a history of battery and sexual abuse of women. In 2003, he pled guilty to a charge of battering his wife and a restraining order was placed against him.  His wife sought shelter at St. Mark's Crisis Action Center in Boise, an intervention services center for families in crisis. In 1993, a Michael's girlfriend got a restraining order against him for battering her and breaking her nose. He pled guilty to the charge.   In 1988, Michael was charged with the felony statutory rape of a 16 year old girl.  The charges were later dropped.

With real life stories like this, who needs cable?

Sen. Craig wasn't the first "Tapping Tom" to tap dance for a tryst.  Word of men having anonymous sex with other men in restrooms and other public places is the oldest of old news. The Austin-American Statesman published an article about a 1970s study of the practice.

Back in the 1960s, "naughty" behavior in public restrooms was called the "Tearoom Trade."   A young graduate student from Washington University in St. Louis, Laud Humphreys, wanted to know what compelled men to have random, anonymous sexual encounters in public places. So he started hanging out in public restrooms to peep the behavior and find out.  The result of his voyeurism and 100 interviews with men involved in the "tearoom trade" was his doctoral dissertion: "Trearoom Trade: Impersonal Sex in Personal Places."

Humphreys observed that "the men [interested in bathroom sex] would use silent signals - call and response foot-tapping and finger-pointing - to seek willing partners.... 54 percent of the men were married and living with their wives; 38 percent considered themselves neither bisexual nor homosexual. The men wanted a sexual release that was quick and would not endanger their standing with their family or society. Just 14 percent of the men identified themselves as living-in-the-open homosexuals."

The results of the study - that men engaging in homosexual sex in the bathrooms were heterosexual (or at least living as such) and not gay - were very controversial at the time. So controversial, that Humphreys lost his job over the study.  Many people wanted to know why Humphreys, who was a married fether of two, was so interested watching other men get it on in the bathroom.  Years later, the truth came out, and so did he. He's gay.

Shea%20%20Howell-larry craigs daughter.jpgThe Boise Guardian reports that Sen. Larry Craig's "character witness," his daughter Suzanne Shae Howell who spoke out for him on Good Morning America yesterday, has an outstanding arrest warrant for missing a court appearance. According to the Boise Guardian, her original offenses were unlawful entry and malicious injury to property.

If you've been under a rock (or, um, preoccupied in a bathroom stall) for the past few days, Craig is the U.S. Senator who was arrested in a public men's room for soliciting an undercover male cop for sex. Craig has not resigned, resigned, not resigned again and then resigned again in the past 5 days because of the controversy surrounding his frisky business.

So Sen. Craig is resigning afterall. For real this time.  We think.

Read it here.

Slate.com did a piece explaining the cruising signals that Sen. Craig used to solicit sex from an undercover cop in a Minneapolis-St. Paul airport restroom.  You can read it here.

Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama Barackstar says that he is not feeling Obama Girl.  Obama Girl is actress Amber Lee Ottinger, who appears in a saucy you tube video singing and dancing about her lust for Barackstar.  Barackstar gets that the video was made in jest, but he expresses concern about the effect that it will have on his young daughters.

"Sasha asked Mommy about it. She said, 'Daddy already has a wife' or something like that," Barackstar told the Associated Press. "I guess it's too much to ask, but you do wish people would think about what impact their actions have on kids and families. This is part of the process of politics that can be difficult, (that) is making sure that your kids and your wife and your family are insulated from both things like this and what I suspect will be at some point some negative campaigning."

Hmmm.  Looks to us like the Barackstar camp is about to make family an issue in this campaign.  Barackstar's  suggestion that people should "think about what impact their actions have on kids and families" could be intended to remind voters of the Clintons' marital difficulties and their inability to protect Chelsea (and your kids) from Bill's no-no activities.

We'll see where this goes...  but in the meantime, you can see the Obama Girl video (if you're not one of the 3 million Americans who already has) here.
