Daily Polichicks - The "Senorita Supreme Court Justice" edition

Shades. Check. Sun tan lotion. Check. Cute tankini with tummy control. Check. Tory Burch flip flops. Check. Summer read, specifically Candace Bushnell's One Fifth Avenue. Check...

It's Friiiiday, girlfriends, and we're leaving that bee-atch better known as Day Job behind to catch some sun and waves! And with this fab weather, we bet many of you are as well.  Whether you're headed up 95 North or down 95 South to your dream escape, you'll want to be the smartest girl from sea to shining sea.  So read up, beach bunny!  Here's your Daily Polichicks:

* The U.S. Senate approved Sonia Sotomayor's appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court, making her the first Latin and third woman justice to sit on the highest court in the land.  As NeNe would say, Bam!  [The Washington Post]

* Just when you think U.S. Senators don't even know who Beyonce is, they practically quote her to the American people: "Can we upgrade you?"  The Senate approved a $2 billion dollar extension for Cash for Clunkers, a program that gives people up to a $4,500 cash incentive to trade in their gas guzzlers for more economically efficient vehicles.

Now what we want to know is, does this program only apply to cars?  Or can we trade in the guy we're currently dating for cash back and an upgrade? Perhaps a newer model with an athlete's body, an angel's heart, the Rabbit's skills and Einstein's brain? Oh, and Bill Gates's money? [ABC News]

* Screenwriter, director, producer, and the only man ever to understand the angst of teenage girls, John Hughes, died suddenly on Thursday. His talent will be missed.  Hughes brought us such coming-of-age hits as "Sixteen Candles," "The Breakfast Club," "Pretty in Pink," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and the "Home Alone" series.   Here's our favorite John Hughes line, delivered by Molly Ringwald in "Sixteen Candles." [The Los Angeles Times
