Christian Right Says Black Folks Are Gettin' Played
In an interview with Newsweek, Richard Land, a leading evangelical who serves as president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, said that evangelicals will support a third party candidate if Rudy Giuliani is the Republican presidential nominee. After putting George W. Bush in office twice, the Christian right refuses to support any candidate whose anticipated policies could diminish their power and influence in the Republican Party. Land had this to say about the matter, "... I have been in too many discussions over the last 15 years where evangelical leaders have said, 'The one thing we will never allow to happen is for the Republican Party to take us for granted the way the Democratic Party too often takes the African-American community for granted.'"

So let me get this straight, the Christian Right (CR)says THEY won't be taken for granted by Republicans like Blacks do by Democrats?
Hey CR, get on the clue train, it's leaving the station without you. Moderate conservatives, what used to be called "Rockerfeller Republicans," are trying to wrestle back control of the party from the CR fringe. Rudy Giuliani is their guy. You know what? I don't blame them.
The CR elected all these sleazy representatives to congress, guys like Tom Delay, Sen. Larry Craig, Bob Ney, Dennis Hastert, etc. Anyway, these guys only gave lip-service to the pro-life, pro-family agenda. [sshh, the dirty secret: you can't really change culture through politics.] Instead, they got buzy making sweet deals for themselves [Randy "Duke" Cunningham, Sen. Stevens, etc.] or having illicit/taudry sex affairs [Sen. David Vitter, Mark Foley, Henry Hide, Newt Gingrich, Don Sherwood, etc.]. In the end, the CR had little to show for their efforts (the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Law) but DID manage turn Congress into a "pay-to-play" cesspool of corruption and they DID manage to "elect" George W. Bush, and everything that came with him including an immoral war, illegal/unconstitutional surveillance of Americans, an attack on environmental laws and science, etc., etc.
So when you christian conservatives beef about being taken for granted, you should re-consider your standing in the GOP. You're not being taken for granted. You're being ignored. Your Party can't stomach your reign of terror any longer. Prepare to be swept into the trashbin of history, along with other old Republican movements, like Nativism, McCarthyism, and Isolationism.
