Minnesota prosecutor responds to Larry Craig
Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) knew what he was doing when he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges stemming from his arrest in a men's room sex sting, said the prosecuting attorney in papers filed Monday in Minnesota.
Craig's plea was "accurate, voluntary and intelligent," prosecutor Christopher Renz wrote in a motion opposing Craig's request to withdraw his guilty plea. "The real basis for the defendent's motion -- his displeasure with the outcome -- is not an appropriate basis for relief sought. The court should also deny the defendent's motion as untimely because it was sought only as a political reaction."
The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Minnesota.
