Oprah Loves Her Some Barack
Oprah Winfrey, who has called presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama "my favorite guy" and "my choice," will host a swank fundraiser for him at her Montecito estate. This is sure to be among the most talked-about events of the election season. Who wouldn't want to kick it with Oprah, Barack and a bunch of A-list celebrities in Oprah's posh mansion?! We are so there!
Tickets are $2,300 per person, which is the maximum amount that an individual can contribute to a primary election. An individual can give a federal candidate up to a total of $4,600 in an election cycle, $2,300 for the primary election and $2,300 for the general election. There are also perks for guests who raise money for the event in addition to writing their own check. Guests who raise $25,000 will get into a VIP reception, and those who raise $50,000 will get into a VIP dinner.
This is the first time that Oprah has officially endorsed an White House candidate. As Oprah is one of the most influential celebrities with a fan base of millions who trust her opinion and watch her show everyday (us included), her endorsement of Obama is likely to be worth far more to the campaign in exposure than any amount of money raised.
